XP PRO shutdown
Here's a good one...When clicking START/TURN OFF COMPUTER/TURN OFF...the curser blinks showing the hourglass and nothing happens. The only way it will shut down is by clicking START/LOG OFF/SWITCH USER/TURN OFF P4/TURN OFF and when the box pops up telling you that there is a user...do you want to shut down ? YES NO ...
you accept yes and the machine telles you it is shutting down windows and shut every thing down. Any ideas?? shadow_man |

Check the Troubleshooting Shutdown Problems in XP page over at Microsoft for troubleshooting this problem. You might also make sure that you have SP1 installed.

I agree with mairving on duckman89's idea. As for SP1 goes it updates the winlogon.exe and that was done when SP1 became available, infact, the version # is 5.1.2600.1106.
SP1 corrects the problem according to M$. shadow_man |
