CRASH overwriting me with xp

i have windows me and xp pro
i also want red hat linux, can i put xp on my pc over me and still have exactly all the same files as as me?
then i will install linux red hat as a dual boot system. I really need help on this as i wish to tackle the problem today...

ps. the picture is my dad

I do not think Windws XP Pro supports upgrading from anything but Windows 2000 Pro. Not even Win2K Server is supported.

Best bet is to do a clean install of Windows XP and then install Linux after.

thanks, i have a network partition that is connected to my dads, ill save all the important files to that and then install xp over me..
