Yes, you should see a dual boot menu, but if you click on ME, it will give you an error. Unless when you remove ME, XP alters the boot file automaticly. If not, you will have to manually edit the boot file, simply just removing the line with Windows ME in it.

Log in to Windows XP as admiistrator (if you are not already logged in that way and format the partition that contains Windows Me from within Windows XP.
Next edit the file "boot.ini" in the root of your C: drive and remove the line that refers to the Windows Me installation. Alternatively, access your system properties and on the advanced tab, select the settings for Starup and Recovery. On the box that pops up, click edit to edit the startup settings manually, and remove the Windows Me reference. Also set the boot menu display time to 0. |

Of course, if you don't want to be bothered tinkering with BOOT.INI and possibly rendering the system unbootable by deleting the wrong thing, there's a simpler way.
![]() Right click on My Computer, Properties, Advanced, Startup and Recovery. Select XP from the list of O/S versions to boot, and uncheck the display list of O/S question. |
