XP Pro and processor speed !

hi people..

i just upgraded from 98SE to XP pro. Like the new look and all the fancy stuff XP gives you BUT 2 things happened, my processor speed has kinda maxed out at 1200mhz.. down from about 1900 mhz when i was running 98SE. Also my 3D benchmark score gone down from 8500+ to about 6300.
Anything i can do to make the machine faster?
or is it as simple as go back to 98 and enjoy faster graphics?

My machine (first build):
xp1900+, Radeon 8500, 512mb DDR (pc 2700), Audigy Soundblaster, 19 inch Flatscreen

The actual speed of your processor is 1600mhz. Did you have it OC'd to 1900mhz?

WinXP should be a faster OS than 98SE.

XP can have a problem with the way memory management system deals with memory allocation. If a program allocates and deallocates large blocks of memory too often that will cause Windows XP SP1 to slow way down.

Also, I like to do fresh installs of my OS. That way I don't have to change FAT32 to NTFS, etc.

M$ has released an SP1 update to fix the system slow down that sometimes happens, use it.
Where is the processor reading 1200?
If it's in the bios then it's not XP's doing and we'll need more info from you.

did 3 things...
1. format hard disk and reloaded XP pro
2. Updated BIOS
3. Installed Fuzzy Logic 4

The problem seems to have been sorted now, processor speed back upto 1600mhz and 3D mark score back upto 8091.

Thanx for all the help guys !
