Reinstall ME on Dual Boot ME/XP Pro System

Is it possible to reinstall ME on a dual boot ME/XP system? I originally setup the machine by installing ME first on the C partion on the drive and XP on the E partition (D is for data). If I reinstall ME on the C partition will it affect the dual boot setup info written by XP?

Thanks
Sonny

PS My reason for asking is I get a constant explorer.exe error in Windows ME, and nothing (tried the Knowledge Base) seems to solve it...

You can do this, however sometimes it does lead to problems. Backup anything you need prior to doing this procedure.

Reinstall me; after you are finished put your xp cd in the cd drive.

1. Boot your computer with the Windows XP CD. When prompted to Setup or Repair, choose Repair. In the Recovery Console, enter the following commands:
2. FIXBOOT, answer Yes
3. CD \
4. ATTRIB -H NTLDR
5. ATTRIB -S NTLDR
6. ATTRIB -R NTLDR
7. ATTRIB -H NTDETECT.COM
8. ATTRIB -S NTDETECT.COM
9. ATTRIB -R NTDETECT.COM
10. COPY X:\I386\NTLDR C:\
11. COPY X:\I386\NTDETECT.COM C:\
In the last two commands, X is the letter of your CD drive.

Save a step or two, and just type:
Fixboot, answer yes
attrib -h -r -s -a ntldr
attrib -h -r -s -a ntdetect.com
COPY X:\I386\NTLDR C:\
COPY X:\I386\NTDETECT.COM C:\
Answer yes to overwrite in the last two steps.
