Question New XP install??

I will be building a new system and I will be installing Windows XP as the OS.

I have never done an XP install. I have only done 95,98, and ME installs.

My question is , are there any things different in the XP install that I may need to look at or need to be aware of?

I have read that XP needs to be registered to get it to work. What all do you have to do to get XP totally working?

Thanks for the help.

No it is easier just boot right to the cd and install the OS just like the others. Once up and running a activation window will pop up you can either call in to activate or do over the internet both are simple procuderes

It will be easier than the 98/ME installs, but you will be faced with the option to choose Fat32 or NTFS file systems during the install. All which can be done from the setup of XP and doesn’t need to be done with Fdisk. My advice is to read up on the pro’s and con’s of each file system and choose which is best for you, but IMHO there is no need for FAT32 unless you are going to dual boot with 98/ME.

The XP activation is painless.

NTFS is more secure than FAT32. Go with NTFS.
