Reinstalling XP Home Edition
Hello all, about 2 months ago I installed XP home edition upgrade. I used ME for the base system. About a week ago I accidently deleted some core files and had to completely reinstall ME and XP. When I installed it the first time I activated and registered it. After the reinstall, I activated it again, is this the normal procedure? or will my copy of XP stop working in 3 weeks? Any information on this issue will be very much appreciated............

Thanks redo, let's just say that something happens again (and with any luck it won't) and I do have to reinstall, will I have to activate every time? Also, what would happen if I started upgrading hardware? I understand that if I change too much of the system, xp will think it is installed on another computer and deactivate itself, is that correct?

It could, but all you would have to do is call MS and explain what you did. It's not as bad as people think.
Alot of the time you can run the repair option to fix XP without having to reinstall it. |

Yes,
the option exists during the normal install process. To setup Windows XP now, press "ENTER". Press F8 to agree to the license agreement. Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is selected in the box, and then press R to repair Windows XP. HTH |

Your post said you had to re-install ME and XP over again. If you ever need to re-install XP let it format & install with out going over ME. You will have a much more stable OS. I have heard of lots of problems by installing over ME. Even though you have the upgrade version,it will ask you to insert your ME disk at the appropriate time.

trulad, that is so good to know. I burned about 1 hour loading ME. I guess that's what I get for listening to friends who think they know it all, and not asking the EXPERTS here at PC Mechanic. If this ever happens in the future, I will follow your advice.................Thanks Much
