Help me out with this

First some background:
I bought this HP Pavilion n5250 notebook from a friend that said he tried to upgrade WinME with WinXP and screwed it up. He said that he was only able to get wallpaper on desktop. No icons, no taskbar or nothing. The mouse was the only thing working. He decided to format the HD to correct the problem and found he did not have the WinME disk to reinstall after he formated. I bought the notebook from him and brought it home today and installed Win98 on it. It worked fine even thought I don't have the motherboard drivers to get it like it should be.
Problem:
While installing other drivers for audio from Win98 disk, the computer did the same thing with me. I have default green wallpaper and nothing else but a working mouse. What is the problem here? Any help would be appreciated.

if you right click on desktop and choose properties you should get a display properties window. click the "effecs" tab and make sure the box for "hide icons when desktop is viewed as a webpage" is NOT checked....hth

You could right click or left click and nothing happen. There was no cursor or anything. I works now because I deleted the partition and repartitioned, formated and did a clean install. Thanks.
