XP Administrator....????

I am brand new to XP Pro. I installed it about 3 days ago. During installation I created a user name. However, I did not create an Administrator Account.

I only have this single user name, no password setup yet. So, when I boot up--XP just goes straight thru to this one user name.

My question is: How do I go back now and create an "Administater" account?

Eventually, I would like to have the administrater account and more than one user account with the varying levels of access.

Thanx!

When you setup XP Pro along the way you should have been asked to enter in the Administrator password (this was around the same time you were entering in yoru name and company and the lic key)

To be able to get to the Administrator Username, you must turn off fast user switching and also set XP so that users are asked to enter a username and password, and not just click a funny little picture and type in the password. The XP Machine I'm on right now is on a domain (and these features are automatically turned off) so I'm unable to give you their exact location, but I do know that they are both in the same place

Control Panel -> User Manangment (Or User Accounts or something with "User" or "Users" in it).

Just make sure both of the above-mentioned settings are turned off and you will be presented with a Windows 2000-like logon screen after you log off, where you can type in your Administrator Username and Password.

With XP, the first user that you create has adminstrative rights; however the administrator account is something that isnt used (userfriendliness?? of XP??). By default, your administrator accnt should have a blank password. To make changes to that account (pwd etc) or to log in using it, you do not need to turn off fast user switching, simply start up your machine, and click CTRL+ALT+DEL twice, your welcome screen will be replaced by the traditional login dialog box at which time you can use username 'Administrator'

HTH

I'll have to remember the Double A-C-D trick!.

Goes to show how much I actually use "Fast User Switching"

Make sure you put a password on that account as soon as you can. The fact that XP doesn't require a password for the Administrator account when it is set up is a huge security hole, one that most people aren't even aware of.

I've always been prompted to assign a password to the admin account when I set up XP Pro.
