Outlook Express: not responding

My Outlook Express has been acting up since this morning. Whenever I opened it up it would open really slow, then receive the mail, and when I tried opening the mail it just wouldn't, it would freeze instead. I tried rebooting but no help. All my other programs open up in a flash. Can anone tell me what's wrong? I have OE 6 by the way.

Thanks for the help,

What O/S?

In XP, if you have messenger disabled for OE there is a slowdown. Here's the fix (yes, I've tried it and it works )

Quote:
try this

To access: Start>Run>gpedit.msc

Disable Windows Messenger

- Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Messenger\(Set both items to Enabled)

See the Regedit section on how to turn off Messenger and fix the Outlook Express "slowdown" issue

To access: Start>Run>Regedit or search for and run Regedit.exe

Turn off MSN Messenger

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Messenger\Client]

PreventRun=1 Will prevent MSN Messenger from running

PreventAutoRun=1 Will prevent MSN from popping up automatically.

Set/create both these DWORD entries to 1 to disable MSN Messenger.

Fix Outlook Express slowdown when MSN Messenger is disabled

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID]

Find the key {FB7199AB-79BF-11d2-8D94-0000F875C541} and under it select the folder IniProcServer32. In the right panel of regedit double-click on the (Default) entry at the top and completely delete the value data it contains. Now do the same for the LocalServer32 folder as well.
Thanks to around2it for those instructions, btw.

Lol, I just noticed this was in the ME/98 forum. That's what I get for having multiple windows open...

Okay, are you connecting through dial-up or broadband?

Are you using an ISP account or hotmail?

Do you have it set so in order to check your mail, you haev to enter a password? If so, then wait until the background shows up, then enter the password.

ISP (BellSouth), and I don't have it the way you said. Mails should be downloading automatically.

I guess I spoke too soon because there seems to still be a problem. Now the only thing that is taking a long time is starting up the program. I don't know why but it never took this long to start it up. After it starts up the mails download ok. I'm sorry if I'm confusing you all, but I'm just as confused myself.

Thanks,

Okay, can you define a "long time"? Mine usually takes about 5-8 seconds to come up.

Did you install OE6 with the upgrade, or did you have it already?
