It's On WinXp Only Though...

I'm currently running a dual-boot machine [WinXP Pro with SP1 and Win98SE]. When I get into WinXP, before it displays the welcome screen, the PC automatically re-starts. Then after re-start, there is the usual message in DOS... start windows normally, start in safe mode, etc. Obviously I would go for starting windows normally and normally it goes. So, what do you think is causing this?

Though this does not happen always but it does happen at times. When I switch to Win98, I don't get this automatic re-start. Everythin' is just normal.

First thing I would check out is RAM. XP is more senstive to quality RAM than WIN98. Try changing RAM if you have any available.

try this in windows xp Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
On the Advanced tab, click Settings under Startup and Recovery.
Click to clear the Automatically restart check box under System failure, and then click OK. next time you hav a problam The error message on a blue screen should remain on the screen so you can record the error information.
