Please help if anyone has info on this situation:
The error message shown below is one that is shown OVER and OVER again with the date tag and time stamp from Monday evening when I first started freaking out and calling my IT friend for help because my system shut down by itself and continued a viscious cycle of re-booting over and over again. There are 18 different event listings of this same error between 4:59 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. I know this means something, but WHAT??!! I found this information by right clicking on MY COMPUTER and going to "Manage" then - in the "computer management>System Tools>Event Viewer>System.... I am running Windows XP pro ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Event Type: Error Event Source: ACPI Event Category: None Event ID: 4 Date: 6/16/2003 Time: 4:59:22 PM User: N/A Computer: COMPUTER2 Description: AMLI: ACPI BIOS is attempting to read from an illegal IO port address (0xcfc), which lies in the 0xcf8 - 0xcff protected address range. This issue is caused by your computer's BIOS trying to write a port in AML (ACPI Machine Language); however to maintain stability XP will give the error to prevent access to that port.
read more here: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/hwdev/...w/BIOSAML.mspx Your best bet is to check with your mobo mfger for a BIOS update. SOme sites also recommend that you disable BIOS functions such as shadowing or caching to see if ur issue goes away. |

shutdown/reboot sequence
Thank you for your response; I am looking into it. However, can you tell me if this is what caused the repeated shutting down? I thought I was losing everything and I was very concerned about the memory.
I had to go back and re-install all of the hardware drivers for everything on the system - is this normal? -kphelps |

try this Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
On the Advanced tab, click Settings under Startup and Recovery. Click to clear the Automatically restart check box under System failure, and then click OK. The error message on a blue screen should remain on the screen so you can record the error information.
