viewing JPGs with IE

I used to be able to open multiple photo files into a
single browser window, then scroll through them using
the Back and Forward buttons. But now, although the
photos still open into IE, each photo opens
into a new browser, with the Back and Forward buttons
dark. How can I get multiple photos to open into the
same browser window so I can easily scroll back and
forth through the photos using the Back and Forward
buttons?

Are these files you're viewing off your computer or on a site somewhere?

Internet Explorer --> Tools --> Internet Options --> Advanced

Make sure "Re-use browser windows when opening shortcuts" is TICKED

HTH, Thanks,

The JPG files are photo files stored on my computer's HDD. Double clicking one of the JPGs opens the file into Internet Explorer. Double clicking subsequent JPGs used to open the subsequent files into the browser window just opened, and I could scroll through the photos with the Back and Forward buttons. But for some reason now the subsequent files no longer open into the same browser and instead open a new browser for each file, cascading the browser windows.

jaysee-
try this:
go to folder options in any folder, click the general tab, click the settings button beside the "custom, based on settings you choose".
on the custom settings sheet where it says "browse folders as follows" be sure the choice for "open each folder in the same window" is clicked. I realise this is windows explorer not internet explorer, but this might fix it...
I use a program called Polyview to view graphics files - it has a slideshow option, Irfanview is also a great little program with a lot of features. They're both free, if you're interested I'll post the links.
While viewing jpegs with IE is convenient, it's limited.

You can do this if you set the photos to open in Microsoft Photo Editor, then the arrow keys at the bottom of your keyboard will scroll through all of the photos in that folder automatically

Right click on a photo in that folder ang go "Open With" Choost Microsoft Photo Editor and give it a go!

HTH

Thanks

Opening JPGs into IE

"Thank you" to everyone who offered advice on how to get multiple photo files to open into the same IE browser window. I finally solved the problem using the following instructions from Microsoft support:

1) In Windows Explorer, click the View menu
> 2) Click Folder Options and click the tab "File
> Types"
> 3) Find "JPEG Image" and click the Edit button
> 4) Click the Edit button and check the check-box
> "Use DDE"
> 5) Copy "C:\PROGRA~1\INTERN~1\iexplore.exe"
> -nohome into "Application
> used to perform action"
> 6) Copy "file://%1",,-1,,,,, into "DDE Message"
> 7) Copy WWW_OpenURL into "Topic" (Note: Leave
> "DDE Application Not
> Running" blank)
> 8) Save the change by clicking OK

did you ever figure out what caused your settings to change?
