I think I found the Culprit...

Hey gang,

My PC was freezing up overnight everynight. I would wake up with a black screen or a frozen screen saver. I think I know what it is. It was probably AVG (anti-virus). I noticed that the HDD drops to 1100 kb/sec transfer while AVG is going. My HDD also clicked once while AVG was running. This can cause freeze ups if apps or programs are running.

Since I had AVG set to run once automatically at night, I think my screensaver (which is basic WinXP one) messed with it. You see, typically an anti-virus is run when the screen saver is not on...

any feedback?

Yes, between screensaver, power saving settings,(ie. sleep mode, hibernation mode, monitor&HD power off settings etc.) and your anti-virus running, there was probably a conflict. They were all fighting with eachother for control, a classic power struggle deep within the confines of your PC....

I have my monitor set to shut down after a period of time instead of running a screensaver. I also have AVG set to update and run a scan at night and have never had a problem doing it like this, but I can see how the screensaver and AVG both running could cause a conflict.

I run Diskeeper, PC-Cillin and a screen saver during the night and have yet to have a conflict, but it is possible that there could be conflicts.
