XP Quick Launch question

I can only get three program icons to appear on my quick launch bar. Anyone know how I can get more?

I know the rest are there if I click the >> button but the whole point for me is to execute a program with a single click.

right click the taskbar, uncheck "lock taskbar", go down and click properties, then uncheck "hide inactive icons". Then drag the taskbar to show the hidden ones.
