Angry Fire XP install problem!!

Ok on a new build, I got the system to post and recognize the RAM, HD and CD-Rom. Everything in Bios is set. I put the Windows XP cd in to boot from. Windows goes through and gets ready to setup. I get to a screen that asks to hit enter to contiune with setup, R to repair, or F3 to exit. At this point I can't do anything. It seems that the keyboard is looked. The keyboard works fine in the bios, but once windows starts to install, the keyboard lights go out. I tried another keyboard from another computer and I get the same thing. Any ideas.

System specs below.

ASUS P4S533-X
1.7 celeron
256 mb RAM from mwave.
Lite-on 48x-24-48+16x LTC48161
WD 40 GB
Teac 1.44mb Floppy
ATI Radeon 7000

What kind of keyboard are you using? USB or PS/2?

Did you try and update your Bios. I had a problem where the Installation would hang at the final setup basically not allowing me to continue. After downloaded the newest BIOS from www.asus.com and it fixed the problem.

Try switching Keyboards. It may be a long shot but worth a try.
Maybe XP's setup doesn't recognize it even though BIOS can.

Good Luck

No I did not update the bios. I saw the bios date was Feb of this year, so I thought it was pretty recent.

I tried another keyboard already same problem.

Should I maybe install the motherboard drivers before installing Windows?

My HD is totally blank right now. I was going to use XP to format the drive. Should I maybe use WD lifguard disk to for mat the drive first and then maybe try installing windows?

I am stumped.

Go into BIOS setup, and enable "Legacy support".
Although you say it's PS2, who knows, this might work?
While you're there, make sure that anti-virus (aka Trend ChipAway) is disabled.

I am pretty sure I have a bad XP CD. I tried to install XP on a totally different machine and had the same problems. I tried different RAM, differtent HD, different CD-ROM, and everycombination in between with the same results. The only common thing in all this is the XP CD.

However, I am going to try reboot's suggestion also.

OK. Well this problem is still an issue. I have tried pretty much everything. I tried different RAM, Different HD, actually I tried a whole other computer and still have the same lockup of the keyboard. I had an old HD that I zero filled. I attached it to the new computer and was able to partion and format the drive and install Windows ME. Everything worked great.

Then I zero filled the drive again and tried to install XP same keyboard lock-up. I got mwave to burn me a new copy of XP and when I got that I couldn't even get the CD to boot.

Does any one have any ideas on what may be happening? I am stumped and so is the Tech at MWAVE.

I am about ready to scrap XP and install ME.

Thanks
