Dell lost its USB drivers
My friend and his dell are back.
This time, his printer dosent work. The Dell dimension XTS t500's usb dosnet work, it says to reinstall the drivers. When I try to clilck the "Reinstall Drivers" button, it says it finds better drivers on the comp, then it says "Please insert the Windows 98 cd", but he dosent have the cd....but he does have windows 98... I've tried Dell's site, and its no help, and microsoft too....I dont know what to do. Anyone know where to get some USB drivers for the dell? Thanks |

When it asks you for the win98 cd, insert the one you have and point it to the cab files on the CD. The cab files reside in the win98 folder. Not sure if it will work but worth a shot.
Also if you might try removing the USB's from device manager and then rebooting. If the OS can't find the appropriate drivers then try the win98 cd per my instructions. Anyone else have any ideas? Edrod13

In device manager do you now have Exclamation marks for the USB's. See if you can borrow a win98 CD from someone just to get access to the cab files since that is where the drivers for the usb's are.

Try c:\windows\options\cabs, to see if Dell has the cab files copied on the harddrive.

Try this link. You might have to create an account but thats easy. Make sure that you download the correct one depending if your running WIN98 First Edition or Second Edition. I was reading some of the comments on the link and some say it matters.
http://www.usb-drivers.com/companies/667.htm If you look on the page you will notice: the drivers for WIN98FE have a date of Oct 12, 2002 the drivers for WIN98SE have a date of March 25, 2002 There are obviously a bunch of downloads for win98 but these were the ones that popped out at me just by glancing Good luck Edrod13 Last edited by edrod13; 06-25-2003 at 12:10 AM. |

Look at the two dates that I posted. These seem to be IMHO the complete setup for either FE or SE. Like I said just make sure you grab the ones that match your version of the OS. Go to these and click on the MORE link and read the comments. Both of the comments for these state that all of the drives are included. Do you know if your buddies pc is running FE or SE of win98?
