Question XP exchange?

If I bought OEM WinXP from mwave.com, would I exchange it to mwave or to Microsoft?

If I have to exchange it to microsoft, how do I contact them? I looked on thier website and that thing is so confusing I have no idea even if I am looking in the right place.

I found this at Mwave

Due to manufacturer's policies, Multiwave can not accept refunds or returns on All Software, Game Titles, Retail Boxed Processors, Notebooks, Blank Media Cartridges, Printer Cartridges, Minolta, QMS, Cisco, IBM, Sony, Intel, Tektronix, NEC and Hewlett Packard products. Defective merchandise can be returned to the manufacturer directly. There is likewise no replacement or refund guarantee covering any product that is affected by any "Year 2000" compliance problem.

and in the Microsoft site I find

Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) Support Numbers
Standard no-charge support covers most Microsoft products. If your Microsoft product was preinstalled, distributed with your computer, or if you obtained an upgrade directly from your computer manufacturer, your primary source for support is the personal computer manufacturer who provided your Microsoft software. Please check the documentation that came with your personal computer for information on how to contact them for support or see our alphabetical listing of computer manufacturers below.

and the listing below this was for computer companies that you may have bought your computer from. Given your situation this does not apply.

Why are you returning it? is it defective? then you might have a case with Mwave, but for any other reason it looks like a forget it.

If it is unopened I might be interested in it as I wiill need a Halflife2 box soon. PM me if so

I want to exchange it, because I think the CD is defective. I would like another one so I can finish a new build that someone is waiting for.

Okay - you need to call them to get this figured out cause as can been seen below they do not acceptthis return, yet I am sure this has happened before and htey can give you the corect way to do it.. anyone else had this issue and can save penguin the call?

How do I exchange a defective item?
In the unfortunate event you receive a defective product, we do sincerely apologize. Please keep in mind that we do not manufacturer the components, therefore we have no control over the defective rate. However, we are here to help and will be happy to assist you with a replacement within the allotted warranty period.

Please contact Multiwave via e-mail at rma@mwave.com or by phone at 1-800-251-4648, along with the item and reason to be replaced, your invoice number, and purchase date. Or you can print out our rebate form, and fax it to us. Here is the rebate form location:

RMA Forms

Unfortunately, the following items are non-returnable for refund or exchange due to manufacturer's policies: Software, Retail Boxed Processors, Notebooks, Blank Media Cartridges, Printer Cartridges, Minolta, QMS, Cisco, IBM, Sony, Intel, Tektronix, NEC and Hewlett Packard products.

Although we are unable to accept returns on the above items, the direct manufacturer will be happy to assist you with any necessary replacements

Has anyone ever had to exchange a Windows CD?

Mwave said they under no circumstances return or exchange software. They gave me a phone number for Microsoft ( 1-800-227-6197) This gave a recording that in order to exchange software, I need to put my name address and phone number on company letter head along with a description of problem, copy of Invoice, and a photocopy of the certification sticker. Then I need to fax all this to them.

Does this seem right to anyone.

Well I am getting the run around with my defective XP CD. I cantacted Mwave and they said I have to go to Microsoft. After hours of searching and numerous calls and phone numbers I finally found the Microsoft Replacemnet number. I called them and they told me since it is an OEM version that Mwave is obligated to replace the CD. Now I have to wait until Mwave customer service opens so I can try and get them to replace the CD.

I am begining to dislike Mwave.

Send a message via MSN to doctorgonzo
If you paid using a credit card, call the credit card company and ask to have the charge removed because the merchandise is defective. That usually works, at least temporarily.
