big problem with xp
I bought a toshiba satellite laptop only 3 weeks ago, installed with Win XP HE, for the first few days it ran fine, but programs started to not run properly and it crashed often, getting worse after a week or so, today I ran a disk checker to fix the errors and get rid of some viruses it had found. After this I ran the recovery disk supplied to reinstall XP and all the drivers, but it wouldnt run
I tried to run it from DOS command but came up with the same problem, so I formatted the drive, created the new partition and tried to install it again with no luck, so now im stuck with no OS... I ran win 98 on it and see if I could install the drivers from the CD but they will only install on XP, the recovery discs have no scrathes and I only just took them out of the packet, so thats not the problem with it not installing it did boot from the recovery disk, loading the cd drivers, it gave me an option to either recover entire hard disk, loading all factory presets, or expert recovery mode installing into a partition. I made a partition from fdisk, but when I reset the laptop it didnt register as being partitioned, I have done this 3 times and still no avail. When I run to restore factory settings it starts to load from the CD and then give me and error saying extraction failed. Since I cant set a partition for some reason it wont allow me to copy the files into one (it says copy from image, which is the windows XP files from the disc) this starts to run but after copying a few MB the CD fails saying cannot open TOSH_REC.ERR Any ideas on what to do? Ive tried just about everything but I want to be sure before it goes back to the shop |

you compute may have had a hiddon partiton with the data it needs to recover so in removeing and remaking partitions you have ereased it you have 3 options retern the computer to the shop and have them fix it, note thay may charge you as you removed the recovery partition or if you have the licence no witch is normaley on the underside of the laptop see if you can borow a copy of xp from a frend and install that you may need to down load drivers from tosheaba if you dont have the licence no you will have to by a oem copy of xp

No hidden partitions on the Toshiba... The extraction error is most likely caused by bad RAM.
