PIV 2.4 ghz on an Asus P4S8X-X MOBO with 256mb PC2700 DDR RAM.
It's a new build and after installing Win2K and the modem, the modem seems to check out fine in the control panel (query modem results in the usual strings of text showing all is well). WhenI try and connect to the Internet with it, I get the message 'no dial tone'. I know there is a dial tone because I've plugged a 'phone into the same line. I've also tried three different modem-wall socket cables and two different modems. I'm going mad! What's happening? TIA |

If its a PCI Modem try changing the modem to a different PCI slot. i had this problem once on a new build, changed the slot and it worked fine.

Sorry my last post did not help, as the modem appears ok when you query it, can you ring say a mobile phone from the computer? i normally do that to test a new modem before i try the internet. If that fails i would pull out the modem remove all traces of any drivers and start again. Are you using the up to date driver? I know how frustrating it can be i have been there myself.
