Boom Don't Understand Windows/Dialers...

I am currently using XP Pro, but had the same basic problem with ME.

My default dialer is "MSN Explorer". Basically, I cannot create/use any dialer other than this "MSN Explorer". When I do, all I get is: Error 691 "username and/or password is invalid on this domain". The username/password are correct. Plus I've tried every possible combination I can think of.

I've been into the control panel to the "Network Connections" and "Internet Options". I've used the wizard and done everything that I can think of, but I'm missing something somewhere. And Again: "MSN Explorer" won't let me see its settings-so I cannot compare them or anything. I've tried my admin user/pass, my MSN account user/pass, etc. Nothing works.

I click on the "MSN Explorer" and connect right up--no problem.

So, if anybody knows how to do this, please help me out.
I'm at my wits end with this one.

Thanx!

Hi Andy, No I am still trying to connect up to MSN. I am stuck with them until January-THEN I'll be hooking up to a different ISP.
Basically, I would like to get away from this "MSN Explorer" which I guess is IE6, and just use the IE5.5 that's in my program files, plus use a redialer when I DL music, etc. But the MSN Explorer dialer doesn't give access to its settings and the whole MSN Explorer thing is hidden behind a shortcut in program files that points to: "C:\Program Files\MSN\MSNCoreFiles\msn6.exe"

I'ved tried creating new dialers through XP with the wizard, etc-setting them up automatically and manually. I've tried using my redialer (CiDial), but it won't even recognize "MSN Explorer" so when it connects up it gets the user/pass is invalid. The redialer will recognize a new dialer I create through XP, but it doesn't matter whether I usr the new dialer I created or the redialer--both get the "Invalid username/password" response from the server. The only thing that connects up is this "MSN Explorer" Dialer. and it doesn't REdial. when I get disconnected it just sits there.

Any thoughts anybody?

Ok, thought we had something but its not working. I went and did as u suggested and this is the result:

"MSN Explorer" doesn't let me know when I've been disconnected->I have to figure it out for my self. Close the main window and then it goes to a pop-up type window so I can "disconnect"->even though I'm ALREADY disconnected!

Anyway, went through that, and just before I went to reconnect through the MSN Explorer window a regular windows dialer that I created popped up. In it is two options for connecting the "MSN Explorer" or the "MSN" dialer that I created. So, I tried the one I created, no luck, same invalid user/pass. I tried the MSN Explorer through this dialer and it just says instantly that it cannot make a connection.

BUT what I did notice is that the MSN Explorer apparently creates its OWN user/pass that it communicates to the server.

I tried copying and pasting that in to the MSN dialer that I created (in the box and in the settings) and I get the same invalid user/pass.

So, atleast now I know what the username is. I don't know what the password is because its starred out, but its 16 characters long which is 5 characters longer than what it should be. However, the password is 16 characters long on either dialing option (MSN Explorer/MSN).

We are making progress. I don't know how much, but its progresss. Can the core files be accessed, and how? I dont want to change anything--just see if I can find some info. MSN Explorer's values are intentionally hidden by M$.
