I am running Windows XP Pro. I tried to use the backup feature to backup certain files and folders on my hard drive but I keep getting an error that the name is not valid and to make sure that I am using a valid path.
I want to backup these files and folders because I want to format my drive and start over. I want to backup to 650Mb CD-RW media using my Yamaha burner. Any idea what I may be doing wrong would help me greatly. Is there a particular syntax that I must use? Thanks. |

first you need to back up to a folder on the hdd name the folder backup and then when the back up is finished burn it to cd if the back up is bigger than the cd you will nead a file spliting program to burn to multepol cds to restor the back up copy the file back to the hdd and use the file spliting prog to reassemble then run windows backup to restor. all i do is copy the my doc and address book wab open address book and go to file export address book wab and from outlook express the email accounts (go to tools accounts and export each accout to a folder in my doc) then copy the my doc folder contents to cds then boot with the xpcd and do a clean install affter its finished i copy the my doc back and import the address book and email accounts

XP's backup utility doesn't support backing up to a CD. You can either back it all up to a folder you create on the harddrive first, then burn that folder's contents to a CD or you can burn the files to a CD by opening your CD burning software and adding the files directly into the "put these on the CD" pane. The end result is the same.
