A good registry tweak
Go into regedit. then go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER.
Then go to Control Panel-then to desktop. in the right hand pane. Change the "menushowdelay" change the value to around 150. i did this to my machine and it actually did speed up my computer |

or one could install TweakUI. It has a slider bar to speed up/slow down menu speed.
I think you meant to say it sped up your menu display. |

I did this... changed the value to 0 instead of the default 400 and it does really speed up.
