Windows XP Service Pack 1
I recently ran an online diagnostic and the result said that I have a 'serious problem' with Windows XP Service Pack 1.
Also, I noticed that just after I boot up, when I click on "My Computer", my system freezes up for a few minutes, then the sub-menu pops up. But, directly after everything loads, when I click on "My Documents", "My Pictures", "My Music", the sub-menus pop up fairly quickly. Same thing for my Internet and E-Mail (they open up fairly quickly). It's just with "My Computer" that the System comes to a (temporary) halt............. If the Service Pack 1 is corrupted....would deleting the entire Service Pack 1-then re-installing it clear up the problem ? Other wise, my machine runs pretty good. I've got Windows XP, 256 SDRAM, Intel Celeron 1.7ghz Gary@garyst@bellsouth.net Last edited by garyst; 06-30-2003 at 05:17 PM. |

" just after I boot up"
Are you letting it boot ALL the way up? |

The first Service pack was know to glitch during the install some of the time. However as part of the install XP makes a restore point prior to the install starting. Just restore the computer, with the system restore, to the point prior to the SP1 install. Then try it again, you can always go back.
If you used Windows Update to get the Service pack it may have glitched, so instead go to the link below and download the pack to your computer and then install it. http://premierdownload.microsoft.co...psp1_en_x86.exe |
