fqpissed Problems Installing a media player

I ve unistalled my Windows Media Player in order to install a newer version. Since that day.... i havent been able to install any short of media player...... and i mean ANY . it starts installing the program and then ...... at about 14% (usually) it stops showing me an error...... Its quite irritating. I am using Windows 98. Note that i ve unistalled every other part of a media player i had(or least thats what i think so). I believe its a Widows bag or something....... is something i can do?/?

See if you can get that error again & copy it down & post it here. If the error pops up in a box with a "Details" button, select it & post that error info too.
______________

In the meantime, I'll make some wild guesses that you can try while waiting for us to respond after we've seen the error details . . . [ of course, we might get lucky & it'll be fixed already]

1) Run a Registry Cleaner. RegClean 4.1 was updated for Win98, works OK, and is free: http://download.com.com/3000-2094-881470.html?tag=list [in fact, to be really thorough, look on your hard drive with Windows Explorer just before this, and delete any program folders with the names of media players that perhaps didn't uninstall properly, Then run RegClean. If the uninstallers had run properly, those folders should be gone]
2) Scan your PC with HouseCall over at http://www.trendmicro.com It's in one of the menus "free online tools". It's very up-to-date & a nice double-check to whatever else you have installed.
3) Go to Windows update and download the Service Pack for IE6. (Windows Media Player is part of the average install)

Best of luck
. . . Gary
