Re-starts Instead of Shutting Down
Some of you might have experienced this but this the first time for me.
I'm workin' on a PIII 800 MHz - based PC with Win98 SE. The mobo is an ASUS with SiS chipsets and on-board video. Now the problem is, instead of shutting down, it re-starts. I ran it in safe mode, and then the same thing happens. It doesn't shutdown. And that is even if I END TASK everything except Explorer and Systray. What I do currently to shut it down safely is to press the power button when the monitor goes blank, before you get to see the POST UP during the re-start cycle. What could be the problem? |

See if this helps
http://aumha.org/win4/a/shutdown.htm I would also disable Power Management in the BIOS plus any Wake_On events that might be enabled. Disable APM would be worth a try as well. Try clearing the BIOS and a different PSU. Nics have been known to cause quite a few shutdown problems. You might also want to try shutting down with minimal hardware and then adding one device back at a time. HTH |
