Windows 98FE to 98SE?

Is it possible for me to upgrade from Windows 98FE to Windows 98SE? Is there a download from Microsoft that I can get or perhaps a CD that will allow me to install and update my machine to 98SE from 98FE?

No, I would really rather find a way to go from 98FE to 98SE, ME, was a good thought though.

There used to be a disk just for that purpose sold by Microsoft, but I haven't seen it in a while. Truth is, I can't remember what they asked for it, either.

You should be fine with Win98 original, as long as you visit Windows Update and install all the Service Packs, and Security Updates. What you end up with is a system very close to Win98se, but without a few items such as Internet Connection Sharing [which shouldn't be missed, since a $30 USD router with hardware firewall is better anyway]. Do you have software that has Win98se as a requirement? . . . If you have steadily updated the Win98 original it may well work OK nonetheless.

newme - I followed your link, but didn't see the 98 - to 98se upgrade disk in the list. It shouldn't cost much, if it's there and I just skimmed too quickly.

Best of luck
. . . Gary

Thanks for your help guys. I'll see if I can try and find a copy of the CD.

BTW. I think that newme was suggesting that I just upgrade to ME, and there is an ME upgrade disk in that link.

The CD Gary mentioned was / is the Win 98.2 update disc. (as opposed to a "upgrade" disc.) It used to go for $19.95 US but I was unable to find it in a quick search at their site... Maybe you can find it if you dig a little deeper.

Rails - yep, that's the one. You have a good memory. I tried & couldn't find it at the Microsoft site on first try either.

Jackal - the difference between the update disk and a regular upgrade full version disk is that the update disk was only for Win98 to Win98se. An upgrade disk can do a full version upgrade for Win95 as well. Those used to cost more, about $90.

For the Win98 user, there's no difference in outcome between the two, except $70. I don't go on eBay much, but I've heard that older disks can be found there from time to time.

Actually I managed to find a 98 update CD, bundled in with a 3COM phoneline network adapter, sitting on a bargain table at Radio Shack for $9.99cdn.
