avi to dvd
thanks for the help last time with finding a program to convert avi to dvd. however a few programs I tried convert avi into mpg files. Is this DVD format and can I burn the mpg format to a DVD-RW, and could I play the DVDs written with mpg format in my DVD player.

Yes, mpg files are a DVD format.
Read the specs for your DVD player, if it will read DVD-RW disks it should have no trouble. |

Oh no, it's not that easy.
Not every MPEG can be used. You need to use the correct settings, the most common of them is MPEG-2 720x480@29.97 (for NTSC) with PCM or AC3 sound, and a max overall bitrate of 9.8mbps. And only a few players will playback MPEG files on a DVD. A DVD-video has a VIDEO_TS folder in which VOB files are stored. You need to author the DVD, that's done with an authoring program. There you load your DVD compliant MPEG, create your menus and chapter points if you want them, and then the authoring software will create the VOB, IFO and BUP files. That now can be burned, but only with UDF Version 1.02 and in the correct order. Wrong order and it won't play back, so make sure you use a burning program that can do that correctly, i.e. the authoring software itself. RJ
