XP not detect or install peripherals

I just completed a reformat and install of Home XP. Now XP will not install any peripherals. It stops halfway through the installation of the printer driver and says operation was ended, driver not installed. Does not detect USB devices- scanner, camera, or Digital Video Creator. The drviers for these devices installed ok, but when I plug these devices in, XP does not dectect them. The devices 'turn on' when plugged in to the USB ports. The USB ports are turned on.

Each of these devices were installed and worked correctly before the reinstall of XP.

What could be the problem?

Haven't changed a thing in the bios- however, I did install the latest VIA 4 in 1 drivers- could that be it?

Did you use a WinXP install CD or the recovery/restore CD from the computer manufacturer?

Dells, for example, requires you to use the "Resource" CD after using their restore CD in order to install the proper drivers. Not only that, but the first thing to install is the stuff under the "System" heading...which then lets you install the rest of the drivers for the periphreals.

4 in 1 drivers aren't required with XP. That could be your problem.

Didn't know that- but found the problem. For some reason, Windows didn't install the USB drivers when I installed XP. Never heard of that happening before.
