Unhappy xp won't boot from hard drive

I just installed windows Xp professional onto my computer and everything works fine except it won't boot from my hard drive. I need to have an xp disk in the cd-rom for my computer to bootup. I figure there is something missing in the boot sequence but i thought that the installation process was supposed to take care of all that. Can anyone help?
