thanks for the link..
he does not have a pop up blocker running. and unfortunately his problem doesn't have anything to do with streaming media (like the link suggests). any other ideas? I've tried uninstalling IE6, but it still gave me the same problem. so i re-installed it, but it still gives me the error. |

Well, did a little research, and there seems to be a common thread in most of them. A Windows shared component that handles encryption can come into conflict with various subroutines. Since it's in the programming code, the usual fixes involve trying varying degrees of different versions of software and patches.
My first guess is that if you disable Norton (just for troubleshooting purposes), the error won't appear. You can then try uninstalling & reinstalling it - perhaps moving to a more recent version. You can also look for a file known to conflict with Norton & cause that error, but this is only on computers that are running or have partially uninstalled CompuServe software. The file is RpaWinet.dll. It can be renamed to RpaWinet.old without any real damage (since it is obsolete most likely) - you'll need to have Windows Explorer configured to show all files (including system and hidden ones), and change the name in Safe Mode. Another guess (just my own) is to uninstall any older browsers or ISP software that you aren't using anymore. Hope this leads to a solution for you. . . . Gary [p.s. . . . in case my first few guesses yield no joy, another often mentioned component involves the Java plug-in for IE, so that when uninstalling, reinstalling you can try including (or not!) the latest "Virtual Machine" (and extras like the "virtual reality" viewers), and different versions of the Media Player] Last edited by GaryRouth; 07-06-2003 at 11:37 PM. |
