Girlfriend lost document.

OS WinXP Pro

Problem: Girlfriend was working on Word Document and was saving to A: drive. She closed the document and later realized the document was not saved to the A: drive. She says A: drive was yapping though. The computer has not been turned off.

I asked her to look under temp files thinking if Word saved it there it may still be found, but had no luck.(maybe I didn't look in the right temp files) Then I thought well maybe it's still in memory somewhere.

At any rate if anyone has any ideas, the computer is still running and we are looking for a way to find the document. Thanks.

try going to start then "search" and typing in name of doc? If you didn't name it try the heading name or first line of document. Good luck also make sure you put a check to search ALL drives

search for files or folders, make sure you select all drives, and search for files created or modified in the last day called *.doc
this will pull up any word documents created in the past day, including the lost file.

On Word try file>Open and it may be found there in the list, but since she was saving it last to the floppy and didn't name it and do at least 1 save to HD, it probably is lost...

Was the automatic save enabled in Word ? If so, the document might be somewhere as a temporary file. They begin with ~ I believe.

Autosave,autorecover

I am sure the autosave is enabled. How can one save or recover a temp file and make it a word document file?

Go into Word's help, Index tab and type "AutoRecover." For once, a Wndows application help file is actually some help!
