Does it do it just for that one MP3, or several?

best option is not use Window Media Player 9.0. as it is the bigist resorce hog in the world it takes more cpu and ram power than thay used to send the first rocket to the moon stick with winamp for audo and windvd or powerdvd for video
and put Media Player in the bin

What O/S?

You could try updating the codecs to get it working.

This link can take you to the latest updates and downloads for Media player 9 : http://microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/default.aspx

You might want to install the latest version on top of the one you have.
