Windows 95 Questions

Whats the maximum hard drive/partition size that is supported by Windows 95? Whats the fastest processor that 95 will support? And finally, what is the most memory you can stuff into a Windows 95 machine?

With FAT16 (Win95, Win95A) the max. partition size is 2 GB. With FAT32 (Win95B, Win95C) the max. partition size is 2 TB.

Don't know if there is a fastest CPU for Win95, it should run on today's CPUs as well.

Max. memory for Win9x is 512 MB I believe (but if you have more you can tune Windows.. .. at least you can do that with Win98, dunno about Win95).

I'm not sure about the fastest CPU, but I know when you get near the 1Ghz Range the timing with the OS can cause conflict and makes it very touch and go.

Interesting one.

Has anyone managed to run a HD larger than 32GB with Win95 OSR2 in FAT32?

Not sure what the fastest CPU that will run reliably with Windows 95. However, I do remember that a Windows update was necessary to run CPUs faster than the AMD K6-2 350MHz.

The AMD K6-2 issue was the "loop" command I think, and it also happens with the P4 CPUs as well (to run W95 on a P4 you will need the same patch), but not with 350MHz in general.

I know Win98 has issues at 2.1Ghz and over, and they have a fix for it, but I'm not sure offhand if this fix applies to Win95.

Natively, Windows 95 only supports 350 MHz processors. To go faster, you need a patch.

Dunno, but the 2.1 GHz limit appears to only apply to W98FE! At least the Hotfix is numbered as such.
