User.DAT and system.DAT
What do these files do? I was reading about them in this thread but it didn't say what exactly they did. DO they contain program lists or something?

They are two of five files that make up your registry.
USER.DAT SYSTEM.DAT WIN.INI SYSTEM.INI MSDOS.SYS CLASSES.DAT (for WinME)
