what are you useing to look for system information

if you are useing start, acessories, system information, then you may have a bad install of the o/s

see if you can download belarc advisor and run it for syatem information,

you might also try and do a repaire of xp

I have had this happen to me before. Was a program running in the background causing it.
Boot up into SAFE MODE and see if your able to access it there. If you are, then a certain device is preventing you from loading up system information aswell as a certain program.
