Boom log in problems

I recently got a lap top from my friend. It is windows nt workstation version 4.0. When I turn it on I get an error. I get an error message saying that I am disconected from the server. After that a sign in screen shows up but I can't get past it. I can't cancel out of it or sign in as guest or administrator. Does anyone have any ideas about how I can get past the log in screen?

Either you get the password from your friend or you have to repartition, reformat, and reinstall a operating system.

Go in however he was logging in, did U try just clicking on OK at the login screen if there was no password administered then U just click OK at the login screen and it should log U in. Sounds like it was set up fora server based network, but after U get in you can change that.....

Then I guess the only choice is to repartition, reformat, and reinstall a operating system.
