If you are using Windows 2000 or XP, better to make it a primary partition, as data access is faster on primary partitions than on extended partitions or logical dirves.

What is your present HDD capacity? If it is small enough (~20 GB) and you plan to use NTFS exclusively, split it into two - one primary partition and one extended (10+10) and use the primary partition for your OS, the second for your primary storage (documents and such).Split the second HDD into two or three (NTFS supports up to four primary partitions per physical disk) and use the first primary partition for your apps and the rest for your data and music and stuff. Great performance. If you can, backup a copy of your docs and data to one of the partitions of the second HDD. That way, if HDD0 dies, you still have a copy of your data, and you can reinstall your OS and be running in a jiffy.
Also, remember that NT/2K/XP work best on NTFS systems. NPP |
