Can I use an HP Windows ME recovery disk?

Can I use a Windows ME recovery disk and put it on a Compaq Computer? ANd what do I need to watch out for?

the recovery disks only work with the computer thay came with and if you change any hardwair thay wont work anymoor

I don't believe you can use an HP disk on a Compaq machine....
I think the only recovery disc that will work is a Compaq disk...

Thanks I thought so myself but wasnt sure,I guess I have to buy an OS at newegg,been putting that off to long anyways.

I learned this lesson a lng time ago, on a compaq I added another hard drive, the bios was changed for teh new hard drive and the restore disk became useless, the only saving grace was my actually allowing the win95 program to convince me to make a floppy disk copy of the OS (well it was 25 or so floppies) when I first got the pc

I've heard of 1 guy who "said" he used a PBell recovery disk and used it to get Win95 off it to go on another hd. Besides breaking a few ethics, he said it worked. Not recommended for ethics reasons, but I've never heard of a Compaq that could be tricked anyway.
