Stub error!

In trying to install HP printer software (dj720en.exe) I get an error that "Stub has caused an error in MMSYSTEM.DLL" I can go no further. What is it and how do I fix?

System is ME, and the error happens whether the install program is on a cd or copied to the pc.

Thanks andyms. I was thinking that may be my next step. However I hoped to be able to dl, copy, or extract whatever files were needed to rectify the problem.

I'll wait overnight to see if anyone has another fix. If not I'll certainly take your advice to re-install WinME.

Thanks....
