Go to Control Panel > Admin Tools > Services and find the messenger service, right click then to properties and stop the service then under startup type, set it to disabled.

or close port 139 on your FIREWALL to the internet. But I prefer killing the service the way lil Jimmie said.
basically it is just a NETSEND command and your computer is receiving them. |

Why in the Messenger description does it say "This is not related to Windows Messenger?"

The "Messenger Service" is or was only used as an Alerter service for Administrators to send messages to users on a local networks or Domains. The "Windows Messenger Service" is a totally different program thats used as a Chat service over the Internet. Someone found a way to use the Messenger Service as a means to send advertisements, a nasty way to defeat the popup blockers used by so many users today.
