A lady at my wife's work (running Win2k Pro) had a bad shut-down, and on restarting lost all icons on her desktop. Is there a way to do system restore to bring them back?
Thx.

U can try using F8 to get to the alternate boot choices menu and try
"Boot from last known good configuration" It may or may not work but it should be safe to at least try it...

Does Win2k not have a system restore utility as in XP? Also, I saw in another old thread somewhere that someone said they "rolled back the registry" to fix something similar, but it didn't explain what that meant. Is that a possibility?

My suggestion above will roll back that registry, but if windows thinks everything is good now, even though U have lost your desktop icons then using my suggestion above will just kep it the same. Win9x had the scanreg /restore that allowed U to pick from the last 5 registry saves, but I have not seen system restore in win2k.
