Smile Save myself $100?

I was wondering if I can use the Installation disk for XP from my Dell to install XP on my Home built. Will that work?

Thanks,

no u cant because the cd that come with company made comps are made specially for the motherboard u have so if u try to install it on the enw one it probably wont even detect it as a bootable disk.

You can get an OEM version from Newegg for $97 shipped, it's the same as the retail version, just without extra's you don't need anyway. (fancy box...etc)

Service pack 1 (SP1) is a free download from MS. I don't understand the $100.00.

Get a OEM version as Redo suggested for your new build. XP has to be activated or it quits working after 30 days and can only be activated on one PC at a time.
