Outlook Express: easy way to keep old emails on new system?

I'm switching to XP Pro from Win 98.2. I can boot from either, but by swapping HDs.

I want to keep all my email -- thousands of them in numerious folders -- but I'm not sure of an easy way to do this...

I was originally thinking of just copying over the files (which has worked for me in the past) but there is just too much data and would take longer than I want to spend on it...

Any ideas for speeding this up??

Thanks !!

Hi TwoRails,

Just copy over and import the mail folder(s) as decribed here. Hope this helps.

Wait, are you dual booting or changing O/S's?

C:\windows\Application Data\Identities\{long number}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

Just copy all of the files from this location on 98SE to the same location on winXP. Then in XP, go into outlook, file > import > messages > (Outlook version) > browse > import all

C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book
Follow the same basic steps for importing your address book.

Hope this helps

If you are dual booting, there are a few other things that you would need to do.

Hi DrZaius and Force Flow,

Thanks!! That looks just like what I need!! I printed it out and will give it a try when I can.

No not dual-booting. I have a HD tray so I can slide out either "system" at will. Since I'm doing my personal build in my spare time, I figured this way was the easiest.

For my "normal" system, I slid the Win98.2 drive in. When I want to work on my "new" system, I slid the XP Pro drive in. I don't have much running yet on the new system. Just Internet access, standard Windows stuff, printer, video, and sound. Don't have *any* programs loaded yet!

Thanks for the tips!!

Cool

Here is a easy way to back it all up. Might be a good thing to do with that many emails.
