Go Back & XP problem

I have a computer that I put a new Mobo & processor, and new HD, then installed XP pro, the complete Norton 2002 suite (including Go Back that comes with Norton)

The system was up & running fine for a couple of months. Then the system would hang at the first Go Back splash screen (this is before the OS is loaded)

I sought support from Symatic, & there responce was that the version of Go Back I had installed was NOT compatable with XP & offered a free DL of a version that is compatable. I replied back to them stating that I could not boot the OS so how could I un install Go Back.

There reply back (which took a week & second reminder) was to use the XP Recovery Council & run FIXMBR, which I did. That took care of the Go Back hang, but now the computer goes to the XP splash screen the two errors:
*************************************************
autochk program not found skipping AUTOCHECK

then:
Stop: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The session Manager Initialization System Process Terminated Unexpectedly with a status of 0xc000003a (0x00000000 0x00000000) The System has been shut down
*********************************************

A search of XP's knowledge say basically the same as the responce as Symatics, that I would need to un install Go Back, but no info on how to un install when the OS will not boot. Any insight as to where to proceed from here is greatly appreciated
thanx-Larry

Might try hitting the F8 key on boot to get "Alternate Boot Choices" and choose "Last Lnown Good Configuration"

I have tried that...same error. I also tried to boot in Safe Mode to see if perhaps I could use System Restore...again same error. Maybe I jumped the gun...but I just deleted the partition & am attempting to re install XP.
I'll let ya know

Cool

If I was going to install anything from Norton it would only be the anti virus. XP has a excellent recovery feature built in. I've used it on numerous occassions.

I agree...especially their firewall...what a boner that is.
Actually Go back is a pretty good program...I have used it on other OS's. It's just a bummer they did not notify people that it was not compatable with XP. The manual say it is compatable with (and it list all windows thru 2000), then states it is compatable with all windows versions. They do offer a free DL of a XP comatable version. They obviously had problems.

I got XP loaded and all is OK, now I just have to DL all the updates...thanks to Go Back.

xp has system restore built in and may be better than go-back

silly to add another program that does the same thing

The Norton Anti-Virus 2002 works great but all of the other Norton stuff messes up your system if you use XP. XP system restore works great, why pay for something that claims to do the same thing. Anything that is in the Norton Suite is already in XP.

Now lets not be so hard on Go Back folks...there are things Go Back can do that Systen Restore can't do. A while back I was doing some photo editing on an irreplacealbe pic. During the editing (& saving...thus overwriting the original), I screwed the pic up, and I remembered about Go Back's file recovery utility. It worked great to bring back the original pic....so it was not lost forever...Ya I know I should have "save as" in another file name & left the original intact...but I did not at the time.

I have used system restore on earlier windows versions for MINOR rollbacks, but it also has some shortcommings, that Go Back has resolved. Now running XP I have attempted to rollback using System Restore on several occasions...and it has never worked once (probably a bug of some sort).

So even though I am thourghly PO'd at the way Go Back handled the XP incompatability issue & caused my system hang, without a fix, it IS a useful proggie.

thanx all-Larry
