computer freeze

I am trying to install a copy of Windows XP on an empty hard drive and it continues to freeze up at various points of the install. It varies from before the time settings to before the product key entry screen. Any ideas? Thanks.

Seems like a RAM problem to me. Swap the memory and see if it fixes it.

What are the system specs? Is this a new build or an older system? Is the case open or closed while you're installing the OS? Is the hard drive jumpered correctly for the type of IDE cable you're using?

Try another IDE cable.

Go to the hard drive manufacturer's website and download the hard drive diagnostic utilities and test the hard drive.
