User Account Missing in XP home
i was managing user accounts through "control userpasswords2" in xp home and i tried to change an account type from restricted (which is under Users Group) to Standard(which is under Power Users Group). I didn't know that Power Users Group did not exist in xp home.
so when I clicked ok, it told me it couldn't update the user to the group because that group didn't exist. Now that particular user is GONE from the users account list under control userpasswords2, the regular user control panel account applet and the welcome screen. However that account can still be accessed through the log in dialogue box(welcome screen disabled) ... for some weird reason that particular user got changed from Limited to a Guest account. Any ideas on how to fix? |

have you tryed changing the account back or change it to an addmin account then change it to a user the best way is to log on as administrator if that dont work delete the account and save the settings then recreate and copy the data back from the saved account folder

the account is missing from the user account applet and the welcome screen.
I can't manipulate it if I can't see it. I may have to look through the registry or something. Thanks for your help! |

andy, I tried that and the account was listed. I deleted the profile successfuly. However, the account still exists. Meaning I can't create a new account with the same name as the account I deleted.

I can't change the name because I can't see the name listed anywhere. I deleted the name on the profiles list so it's not their anymore either. I'm gonna try changing it through the command line using NET USER /delete but I'm not sure if xp home has it. The computer is not here right now. Thanks for the help.

unfortunately windows XP home does not have Local Users and Group Policy snap-in. Thanks for not giving up though. I'm gonna try the net user /delete plan when I go to my parent's house (that's where the computer is). I'll be sure to update you.
