Registry File

I noticed that there was a registry file inside C:\, so I deleted it, and everytime I reboot and get back into Windows, I get an error saying the file is missing. The file name was called "SPP" What is the file? Any way I can get it back?

Would a reg clean fix the problem?
I recently reformatted the HD and only loaded up some programs that knew worked fine from the previous installation and I never seen the file before.

Here is the error,

"Cannot Import C:\spp.reg: Error Opening the file. There may be a disk or file system error."

Would a repair installation do the trick?

How about "Last Known Good Configuration"?

Regclean did not fix the problem.

Anybody know what the file is for? Spp.reg? like for any particular program?

My friend who is running 98SE has the file in the same location. Was wondering if I could just copy his file over to my PC? Would that work?

sounds like a batch file or a program is trying to merge that reg file into your main registry without your knowledge. I'd try scanning for trojans, viruses and spyware.

I did not have any Viruses/Trojans/Spyware before I reformatted the HD, and I reformatted the HD and I removed the registry file after it was placed there after a program that I installed. I am not sure which program came with that file.

I will re-scan though.

Just go ahead and try the repair and restore is what I would do first.

Restore does not come with Windows 2000.
