windows update problem 2k

I am trying to get some updates on one of my computers.

I have 2 PC's on my desk, both win 2k.

PC 1 updates just fine.

PC 2 gets the EULA screen, I click accept and get the window that shows the download and install progress and it just stops there, no more action.

At first I think it might be my router blocking in some strange way, the PC that works is on the router normal, PC 2 that does not download was in full DMZ mode.

So I set PC2 back in normal mode no DMZ. Still will not download.

WHile typing this I get an error finally on PC 2, DDE server is not responding. well I guess that is the problem, any ideas on fixing it?

Is your IE set on automatically detect settings in the LAN settings option? I've seen trouble with leaving that on and windows update. But usually its with detecting the updates required not with downloading - still might be worth a try.

ok, maybe that DDE was a one time thing, after I rebooted it is just sitting on the download window in excess of about 10 minutes, I am going to work going to leave it doing it's thing and check when i come home.

Are those two separate copies of windows 2000 on both pc's? Just wondering whether that might have anything to do with it-- although I wouldn't think so. Have you cleared cookies/temp files on the problem pc lately? HTH
