After a computer crash, my son tried to get it up again by going into the bios and set default values..I eventually got back into windows and it was sluggish, I saw I was running out of room so I started deleting some things I dont use. It was running great untill I went into msconfig and choose system restore (it sounded so innocent) now I cant get into windows (2000) At all..I get a message saying "windows can not update 1% to 2% ..help! Pentium 2, windows 2000.

i dont know how you got systom restor or msconfig as its not part of win2k unless you used the msconfig that was got from winxp the only fix i can think of is to press f8 at boot and chose last known good config if that dont work try a reinstall of win2k

2k repair (I think its called) can be fast when it is overwriting a previous 2k install.
To use Repair pretend you are going to do a freash install. 2k should find the old OS and give you the Repair option. |

I cant reinstall, I cant get out of DOS, believe me I have tried. The cursor just flashes and it wont accept anything I Type. I will try the f8 to boot. When I turn my computer on, as it boots I get a message that the CPU is unworkable or has been changed. I hit f1 to continue and that is when I get the 2nd DOS page that says to wait a few minutes..then I get a message that says %1 %2 win can not update.

What is the speed of the CPU now? Since your son reset it to DEFAULT value, did he return the BIOS SETTINGS as same setup when it was running perfectly? I hope he saved all the said settings in a paper or floppy disk. HTH.
